FAMILY LAW LITIGATION - ADOPTIONS - MEDIATION
The attorneys in our family law and adoptions practice represent clients in the settlement and litigation of domestic proceedings for divorce, legal separation, modification, and enforcement actions. The issues include disputes involving custody, visitation, child support, college education, alimony, property settlements, and juvenile matters. We represent parties in complex financial situations affected by divorce or separation and represent a variety of witnesses and children in domestic disputes. The practice utilizes attorneys in our tax, real estate, business planning, and other areas in resolving such issues for our clients.
Pre and post nuptial agreements are prepared for our clients on a regular basis. These agreements address issues surrounding both divorce and death, as they relate to property, alimony, family and businesses. These agreements are a joint effort between the domestic, tax and estate lawyers.
The family law practice includes private and non-private adoptions of children both in state and from around the world. A substantial portion of the practice involves the mediation of matrimonial and family law disputes including divorces, modification of decrees, custody disputes, and resolution of continuing family conflicts.
In addition to training in civil litigation mediation and domestic law mediation, our domestic lawyers are trained in resolving domestic violence through mediation.
Our attorneys are also involved in formulating and drafting proposed legislation and working closely with the Courts to recommend changes in practice and procedure in the areas of family law, adoption and mediation. Our attorneys also participate in Continuing Legal Education presentations.

Sammye Oden Kok practices in the area of family law, including divorces, adoptions, child custody and mediation, primarily in the family law area.
Sam graduated in 1983 from Cumberland School of Law, after obtaining her B.A. degree in 1974 from Auburn University.
Sam is a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She is a member of the American, Alabama and Birmingham Bar Associations. She is also registered as an Alabama State Court Mediator with the Alabama Center for Domestic Dispute for civil, domestic, domestic abuse and appellate mediation. She is one of the founding members of the Alabama Academy of Attorney Mediators, and is a frequent speaker on family law, mediation and adoption issues. She is a 2010 recipient of "Super Lawyers" in the area of Family Law.
